Day 13: Learned This Week

Day 13: What lesson did I learn this week?

My boyfriend and I talked and I did something I find I am doing more often. I am saying “I am not talking about that.” In the past this is not something I would really say. However, as I am getting older I feel that people are trying to convince me of something without really listening to the point I am making. What comes to mind is people not listening to give me a listening ear, but listening to reply. I don’t always need someone to fix something or convince me of something but to just listen.

The lesson I am learning is that it is okay to say “I do not want to hear it.” That if something is going to bring me distress or make me uncomfortable I can say enough is enough. That I do not need have to be the bigger and more understanding person. It is not selfish to say I don’t want to have a conversation, I don’t want to hear what you have to say. I feel this is in part a part of learning not to justify my reasonings. It is very empowering to say “I do not need to justify anything”, and it is empowering to say, “I don’t want you to try and convince me of anything.”
